Housebreaking problems is the number one reason why puppies are abandoned to shelters. Yep it does take a lot of commit to raise a puppy. You must be loving and patient especially when house training a puppy, but it's not that hard to do. If you are consistent and stick to the schedule, your puppy will be trained in no time.

Puppy Schedule ...wait, wait don't run away i know we are all governed by our schedules and who needs to add to it. But you want you puppy to be successful right? What I mean by a puppy schedule is coming up with a plan or strategy to help your puppy stay ahead of the game.
When will you take your puppy out?
Most puppies need to go out several times a day. Definitely in the morning, at bedtime but also about 20 to 30 minutes after eating. Many dogs have to go after playing because their bowels are stimulated during that time. So be careful that is one of most common times puppies have accidents.
Who will take your puppy out?
If there are several people in the house hold please establish who will be taking care of the dog on which days. That way the puppy is not set up for failure because someone didn't know it was their day to take care of the dog.
How will you use a dog crate to help your puppy develop bladder and bowel control.
Is crating your puppy mean thing to do? Short answer is no. Yes like anything if used incorrectly it can be harmful. But because you are a loving and caring puppy owner I am sure this will not be an issue. Two main reasons to use a crate to successfully house train you puppy is because it needs a safe place where it can do nothing wrong and also to help develop bladder control.
Where is your designated puppy potty area?
Decide on an area where your puppy will go potty. Lay some washable puppy pee pads in the area, maybe 1 or 2, and make sure you keep them in the same spot till your puppy gets hang of using it. I know it is sounds gross to some but try not to clean up after your puppy uses the puppy pad. Clean up if he defecates but leave the pad there with some urine, the scent will encourage your dog to go there next time.
This is mostly common sense stuff I know but you actually need to think about it, make a simple plan and stick to it. Your puppy is counting on you to help him learn just as a young child would.
