Sifting through all the free puppy training tips.
There is a lot and mean a lot of puppy training tips on the internet. Before puppies arrive to their new homes dog owners should be already preparing for their arrival and researching different method of potty training puppies.
I have chosen to share the following method which is a combination of crate training and teaching a puppy to eliminate on command because to me it covers all the basics and has worked very well for many puppy owners, including myself.
Before we continue with the step by step instruction on how to potty train your puppy, lets talk a little about teaching your puppy to eliminate on command. This puppy training method is an excellent choice becasue you can get him to go when you want, where you want and simplifies the housebreaking process.
The main point is to get your puppy used to hearing the same words when it's going to the bathroom. Therefore, crating a trigger word that makes your puppy realize you want it to go potty when you say that phrase.
So if you have small children in the house and you tell them often to "go potty" before you go run errands that is not the phrase you want to use to potty train your puppy! Make up something special that you would never say just in every day conversation.
Things you will need.
- Crate
- Puppy training pads
- Collar and Leash
- Small Treats
- Owner to have patience
- Owner to be disciplined
- Owner to be with puppy all time when puppy is not in crate.
Step 1
Take you puppy out of its crate put leash him on his leash walk him straight to your designated potty training area where you have already laid down a couple washable wee wee pads.
Step 2When he starts the puppy potty dance, which usually includes intense sniffing and circling, start saying a potty command like "go potty" or "get business". Make sure you say it in a normal calm, not excited, voice and always use the same phrase. You want your puppy to crate the association between your words and going to the bathroom. Step 3 When your puppy is done praise him intensely "good puppy good puppy!"and especially for the first month or so give it a little treat like a tiny piece of cheese or sliver of hot dog when he goes potty in the right place. Do not give it to him if does not go potty as he was supposed to.
Step 4After a few weeks instead of waiting for your puppy to do the puppy dance start saying your potty command as soon as your approaching the potty area. When he is all done praise him and reward him by taking him into the yard to play or stroll around the neighborhood. Assuming your puppy has had all his puppy vaccinations and it is safe for him to be outside. That's it ..it can be that easy! Just make yourself stick to the plan and in a few weeks, not 2 weeks but more like 4-6+ weeks, your puppy can be well on its way to being fully potty trained with your help!
Are thing not going as easy as 1 2 3 4 ?

Yes you might run into some roadblocks but you need to stay focused and not give up, like I said your puppies success depend on you! STICKING TO THE RULES, BEING CONSISTENT and BEING SUPER PATIENT is A MUST!
Important tip!- Because our goal is to teach bladder, bowel control and establish it's own inner puppy potty schedule, always and i mean always take your puppy straight to the designated potty area EVERY time it's taken out of the crate!
Important tip!- Now I am going to be honest this method always worked with our boxer, our larger breed puppies. When we got a small breed shih-poo mix, talking would totally distract her and get her all excited. So with her I totally had to adjust my voice in the beginning to a very low low almost mumbling tone.
